To commemorate a year in quarantine, I am releasing a collection of the music I recorded with my modular synthesizer during that time. A kind of sketchbook. My approach in all of these tracks is to patch up systems that modulate and sustain themselves, and I have very little interaction with the instrument once the patch is running. I am interested in exploring the boundaries between pattern and randomness, between repetition and change. Each track is the result of many hours of patching and tweaking the system over a period of a week or two; so in a way, these tracks are the soundtrack to my quarantine. This is how I spent my days. The sequences and sounds you hear are the distillation of many iterations of a patch. All tracks were recorded live in a single take into my computer where they were mixed and edited down. The tracks are presented in order of their creation.

This is music meant to sit in the background. It doesn’t demand much attention and probably rewards inattention. Put it in your earbuds and take it for a walk or do the dishes or rake some leaves.
